Honey Walnut Shrimp


Honey Walnut Shrimp is absolutely one of our favorite Chinese dishes! The first time we tried this dish was at Fats restaurant. It is the most popular dish there so we had to try it. Ever since then, I've been trying to get a good recipe for it so I could make it at home. This recipe is quite fantastic! It tastes pretty similar to the Fats' honey walnut shrimp - although the walnuts weren't as sweet as I hoped but still very delicious. You must try it if you like shrimp and walnut. If you're allergic to walnuts, use pecans or other nuts that you like.



Honey Walnut Shrimp

Ingredients:

1 lbs large shrimp, peeled
1 cup water
2/3 cup white sugar
1/2 cup walnuts
4 egg whites
2/3 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons honey
1-2 tablespoons canned sweetened condensed milk
1 cup oil (for frying)

Direction:

In a small pan, mix water and sugar. Bring it to boil, add the walnuts. Boil for another 2 minutes. Drain and place the walnuts on a baking sheet to dry.

In a medium bowl, beat egg whites until foamy. Add cornstarch and mix well until it becomes somewhat thick. Dip shrimp into the batter.

Heat oil in a fryer or a frying pan. Fry battered shrimp until golden brown. Place the shrimp on a paper towel to drain oil.

In a medium bowl, mix mayonnaise, honey, and sweetened condensed milk. Stir in shrimp and walnut until the mixture is coated on the shrimp and walnut evenly.

Serve with rice if desired.
